WHO WE ARE

The Johnson County Sheriffs Office has over 117 sworn Deputies and civilian personnel. The agency is divided into 10 Divisions each with its own specialty. Since 1854 The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office has strived to provided the best in public safety to the residents of Johnson County by providing its Deputies and staff with the best training, tools, and equipment. This is all possible because of the support of the community and its leaders.

ADMINISTRATION

Administration consists of the Sheriff, 2 Chief Deputies, and 3 Captains. These Supervisors are appointed by the Sheriff to oversee all the other divisions of the Sheriff’s Office. 4 civilian employees are also appointed to assist the Sheriff’s Office with clerical work and handling the day to day office tasks.

CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS DIVISION

The Criminal Investigations Division, also referred to as CID, is comprised of 15 sworn personnel and 2 civilians. Criminal Investigations is responsible for the investigation of a variety of criminal offenses that range from criminal mischief to homicide. The investigator is assigned a report generated by the Uniformed Patrol Division and is responsible for the investigation of that case until its conclusion. The Criminal Investigations Division are divided into units; Crimes Against Children, Property Crimes, Persons Crimes, Environmental Crimes, Juvenile Crimes, Sex Offender Compliance, Financial Crimes, and Special Crimes.

PATROL DIVISION

A Patrol Deputy is the most visible member of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, providing around the clock service to the citizens, businesses, and visitors. Each Deputy works to protect life and property, ensure the civil rights of individuals, maintain public peace, provide citizen assistance, enforce criminal and motor vehicle laws, and respond to emergency situations. The Patrol Division is organized into four alternating 12 hour shifts. Each shift is commanded by a Sergeant, and one Corporal who are assigned to assist in the supervision of the Patrol Deputies. The four shifts are defined as Days and Nights.

WARRANTS/TRANSPORT DIVISION

The Warrants/Transport unit are headed up by one Sergeant. The unit has seven personnel assigned as follows; 1 Supervisor, 1 Warrants Deputy, and 5 assigned to primary transport duties. This units’ personnel are all fully certified Peace Officers, and are cross trained to perform all duties assigned to the unit. This includes providing assistance to all divisions within the Sheriff’s Office. The primary warrants deputy monitors and does “work ups” on all warrants, and coordinates the response of Sheriff’s Office personnel. This may include personnel from Uniformed Patrol, Criminal Investigations, or S.W.A.T. The Transport Deputies assist in the transportation of both juvenile and adult offenders to comply with the needs of the court system, juvenile services, and correctional operations. The transport deputies coordinate the transportation of inmates with a multitude of agencies throughout the State of Texas and other states.

COURTHOUSE DEPUTIES

The Guinn Justice Center is headed up by a sergeant who oversees the law enforcement operations. There are a total of twelve Sheriff’s Office Deputies assigned to the courthouse as follows; 1 supervisor, 5 court Bailiffs, and 7 Deputies assigned to protection detail. The Deputies assigned to the Guinn Justice Center are all sworn Law Enforcement Officers who perform a variety of duties to include court bailiff services, oversee courthouse security, inmate movement and holding, and maintaining an operations center.

The Deputies assigned as bailiffs to the 18th, 249th, and 413th District Courts, as well as the County Court of Law 1 and County Court of Law 2. The bailiffs work not only for the Sheriff’s Office but also at the direction of the courts where they are assigned. The bailiffs are responsible for the safety and security in the courtroom and maintaining order.

The personnel assigned to the protection detail are responsible for controlling entry into the Guinn Justice Center, performing patrol duties, providing bailiff services for additional courts, and responding to incidents or criminal activities that occur at the facility.

PUBLIC RELATIONS DIVISION

The Public Relations Division is newly formed and branches to several areas of attention. The Public relations Division is operated by 1 Sheriff’s Deputy who runs all social media, public information, media relations and also handles community relations program development.

This divisions goal is to bridge the gap between the public and its Sheriff’s Office, and to give the community a sense of ownership of its Sheriff’s Office. This is done though programs like the Citizens Police Academy, Sheriff’s Cadet Corps, and several outreach programs.

S.W.A.T

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department formed the S.W.A.T Team to prepare officers to more safely and effectively counter an ever increasing culture of critical incidents due to a rising propensity for violence in our communities throughout the country. In the beginning the team was comprised of a few volunteer officers, and has developed into a well organized, motivated, and multifaceted tactical team prepared to respond at any time.

Recognizing the essential need for a highly trained and well equipped emergency response team substantially reduces the risk of injury and loss of life to citizens, officers, and suspects in high risk incidents is the intent of The Johnson County Sheriff’s S.W.A.T Team. The tactical unit has received advanced training in various fields and possesses capabilities in special weapons and tactics, high-risk warrant service, hostage rescue, barricaded suspects, active shooters, dignitary protection, high risk prisoner transportation, and preparation for weapons of mass destruction and terrorism incidents.

TRAINING DIVISION

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Training Division is responsible for maintaining mandatory TCOLE training and licensing for over 350 state certified employees. The Training Division also organizes and conducts TECOLE accredited classes throughout the year, free of charge to employees of local law enforcement agencies.

The Sheriff’s Office does this to promote the highest quality of law enforcement training possible.


In Service Training

COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION

The Communications Division has the responsibility of maintaining communications with the units out in the field, answering calls from citizens, and is usually the first contact most citizens have with the Sheriff’s Office.

Currently, there are 22 Communication Operators and 2 supervisors who dispatch for multiple agencies including the Sheriff’s Office, Police Departments, DPS, and Constables. Including the Sheriff’s Office, our telecommunicators dispatch for a total of 19 agencies.

RECORDS DIVISION

The Records division is responsible for storing and maintaining all records and documents required by law. They are also responsible for any request for public information requested by a member of the public.
